Dead Exs

Dead Exs = [Art] by Anna Wickenden + Daniel Kumiega

yo yo! where my EXs at?!?

ARTIST UPDATE: SEPT 6TH 2010

Finding the time to work on anything has been pretty hard for us lately, which explains the lack in posts.  The EXs have been swallowed up by reality, having to dedicate most of their time to their day jobs, and spending precious time off trying to relax, before all the work piles up again. Fortunately, work has slowed a bit, and time now allows for some fun! So, for all of you who have been checking the DEAD EXs blog to find nothing but the same old stuff, here’s a little something to wet your appetite. Currently, DEAD EXS are working on limited edition posters, which will be available for purchase soon. Delving into screen printing and working with light and shadows, DEAD EXs hope to have new work to showcase soon in a magnificent exploration in light, emotion and fantasy worlds. Excited? You should be..

We are the Dead Exs…

Hello. And welcome to our new blog. We are the Dead Exs, an art group based in sunny Los Angeles CA.

that's us...

Dead Exs is made up of two artists, Anna Wickenden and Daniel Kumiega. Anna works as a fashion/wardrobe stylist by day and is currently working on her own jewelry/accessories line she hopes to have up and going by the end of this year. Daniel works as an animator at a hip post production company and works on various art projects of his own when time allows.

This is our (short) story…

Anna and Daniel met while dating two members of a crazy LA rock band, which has subsequently turned to dust. Trust us when we say, it’s a story too long and ungapatchga to get into… so the short version is what you’re gonna get.  The two helped work on art work and projects for the band, utilizing the traditional punk esthetic of DIY. After breaking off their relationships, Dead Exs was born, stemming from a conversation between Daniel and Anna about how they would most likely be “dead” to their ego-crazed ex’s.  After a night gone awry, the newly formed Exs made their way to a shooting range where the idea for the first Dead Exs project was conceptualized.

For their fist venture into the art world, Dead Exs worked exclusively with shooting range targets, shot by the artists themseleves, as their canvas. Playing with color and space and using hand drawn, hand cut stencils of, what the Ex’s like to call “displaced emotion”, the targets are hand painted to create contradictions of epic proportions.

Now, after two successful solo shows, the Exs are ready to take Los Angeles by storm!

Currently, the Exs work can be seen at the LA Art In Numbers exhibit, Saturday May 8th, 7pm - 11pm at High Profile Productions 5896 Smiley Drive, Culver City, CA 90232

Also, all you peeps in AZ can check out some of our work for the Toms Shoes Style Your Sole Event happening May 1st at Frances Vintage 10 W. Camelback Rd. Phoenix AZ 85013. We will be decorating two pairs of shoes to be auctioned off for charity, so if you’re in the downtown phoenix area, stop by for some fun times! Smeeks is just down the way and Stinkweeds is always worth a stop by…

Pics of our styled soles will be up soon, and eventually (hopefully) we’ll have some pictures and info on our art and merch available for sale as well!

Until then…

Yours Truely,

Daniel +  Anna
